"I figured as much." He knew from his own experiences that it was prevalent, particularly in this part of California. He shook his head in amusement at the thought, his hair falling into his eyes. It would need a trim soon.
It surprised him how quickly the city streets gave over to residential neighborhoods, but he supposed he shouldn't have been surprised with a grocery store nearby. He liked the atmosphere of this area, seemingly low-key and friendly, so unlike much of the city that he was already familiar with. Or maybe it was just that so many of the people he met weren't sterling examples of humanity, and he associated those areas they lived in as being the same by default?
Impossible. It was impossible for someone who had such a lovely smile as she to smile too much. He found himself returning it, with a bit of a blush. "Thank you for inviting me." It would be a new experience for him - no one had ever invited him to anything like this before. Then again, cars in general didn't get invited to many social functions. He could feel his blush deepening.
He looked down at his shoes with some surprise, but quickly kicked them off before following her inside. It felt weird entering her home in only his socks, but he knew it was part of Japanese culture. When in Rome? Or in this case, near-Japan? He noted the blend of styles, not quite harmonious but somehow seeming to work as he took in the living spaces with a nod of approval. Overall, her house had a comfortable, homey feel to it. "I like it. It's different, visually interesting, but still - and, dare I say it? Cozy. It's certainly not the kind of house you see every day." Not that he'd know?
He was curious to know what she was working on, all those papers piquing his interest, but he stopped himself from prying. It wasn't his business; after all, what had he done to deserve to know?
"No, that's fine. I'll get out of your way." He did as he was told, with another smile and a bit of maneuvering to make sure they didn't bump into one another as he set the things down and moved out of the kitchen. It would give him time to look more at some of her interesting knick knacks, as well as text Michael.
You're fine!
